2027 Regional Transit Operating Budget and Capital Program

NITA is responsible for creating and approving a regional budget for the entire Chicago regional transit system including the budgets of CTA, Metra, and Pace. The first NITA Budget will be approved in December 2026. This page will host information on the process and how to get involved.

2027 Budget Schedule

NITA will work with the transit agencies throughout summer and fall to create a regional budget, seek feedback from the public, and vote on adoption before the end of the year.

Timeline

  • May:  Board adopted annual budget call
  • August: Board considered adoption of 2027-2031 preparatory funding amounts
  • September: Service Boards to present capital program proposals to labor
  • September/October: Initial public engagement, event details to come
  • Early November: NITA releases Regional Budget and Capital Program for public comment
  • November: Service Board and NITA Staff present budget proposals to NITA Board
  • November/December: NITA holds public hearings and presents budget to six county boards
  • December: NITA Board of Directors considers regional budget for adoption
